Carpooling from NYC |
For our friends and family living in NYC, we've created a Secret FaceBook Group
to help you coordinate carpools. We tried to add everyone to it, but if we accidentally skipped you, let us know. If you are interested in
carpooling from the City we suggest you go there and post this information:
1. The number of total travelers in your group and your location in the city
2. When you are looking to head up to Woodstock and when you are heading back (i.e. heading up and returning Sunday)
3. Whether or not you have a car at your disposal and how many empty seats you have
|
Rent a car |
The easiest way, by far, to get to the Woodstock area from an airport is via rental car. It is important to note that renting a car
in Albany will be significantly less expensive than renting a car from any of the NYC area airports.
Note: I-87 is a toll highway and has a limited number of exits. If you
accidently get on it then it will be a 10 or more mile drive to the next exit and you will have to pay a toll both ways. |
Trailways Bus from Albany |
Leaves from the airport and drops you off at the Kingston bus terminal which is roughly
a 10 minute walk (or 1 minute cab ride) from the Best Western Plus and the Quality Inn & Suites. The cost is $30 (round trip) per person and takes about 1 hour. |
Trailways Bus from NYC |
Leaves from Port Authority in midtown Manhattan and drops you off at the Kingston bus terminal which is roughly
a 10 minute walk (or 1 minute cab ride) from the Best Western Plus and the Quality Inn & Suites.
The cost is $50 (round trip) per person and takes about 2.5 hours.
Getting to the Port Authority from LGA or JFK is about a $40 cab ride and about $100 from EWR. |
Metro North Train from NYC |
You can take a MTA North train from Grand Central in Manhattan to the Poughkeepsie station which is the last stop
on the Hudson Line.
The cost is $35 (round trip) per person and takes about 2 hours.
Getting to Grand Central from LGA or JFK is about a $40 cab ride and about $100 from EWR.
Once in Poughkeepsie, it is
an additional 30 minute drive to Kingston (via rental car). This is the least convenient method. |
There are two hotels where we have blocks reserved for our guests with discounted rates. They are ostensibly across the street from each other and are about
a 20 minute drive to the
ceremony/reception location and to Woodstock. When you call to make a reservation, state you are
calling for the
"Venters/Gornbein" event. There are also numerous B&Bs in the area, some of which are in Woodstock. However, we don't
have any discounts arranged with them.
